WARNING SIREN TESTING
WATSEKA —Iroquois County warning sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 am in conjunction with the National Weather Service test. City or village sirens are the responsibility of each community. Iroquois County Communications (ICOM) triggers each siren simultaneously.  It is the community’s responsibility to address any flaws in the operation of its warning siren.Â
Iroquois County ESDA (Emergency Services & Disaster Agency) is a resource to each community’s own emergency response plan. Municipal, village, township officials are urged to prepare and practice their own emergency response for situations your city/town may be prone to experience. In the event of threatening weather or a need to evacuate, each community’s mayor, fire or police have their own responsibility to protect local citizens. Sounding a warning siren for protection is every city/town’s responsibility. A local official—mayor, fire chief, law enforcement—has the authority to sound your town’s siren, either manually or by contacting ICOM. The ESDA Coordinator is a liason for each community, but it’s not necessary for ESDA to be the sole person responsible for sounding sirens.Â
If and when disaster strikes, your community needs to be prepared. For further information, feel free to contact Iroquois County ESDA at 815-432-6997 or at IQESDA [at] IQESDA [dot] COM
