FLOOD CONDITIONS IMPROVE; Watseka places barricades
Tuesday 12/30/08 Update: 7:50 am
The Flood Warning continues on the Iroquois River at Iroquois, but waters are expected to peak today. Waters levels have actually dropped, even though the City of Watseka placed barricades at usual flood spots on the city’s north side. Barricades advise motorists of water on 5th Street between Hickory and Elm; also on North 4th between North and Sheridan.
Other low-lying areas in rural parts of Middleport Township, including Radio Station Road, have some water on the pavement. The Iroquois River rose about 6-7 inches overnight, but Sugar Creek in Watseka dropped 8 inches. { see NWS statements below…}

The Flood Warning continues for
the Iroquois river at Iroquois.
* Until Saturday afternoon…or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 400 am Tuesday the stage was 19.6 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Forecast…the river will continue rising to near 20.1 feet by this
evening. The river will fall below flood stage Saturday morning.
The Flood Warning is cancelled for
the Kankakee River at Momence.
* At 345 am Tuesday the stage was 4.9 feet.
* Fell below flood stage at 3:30 am Tuesday.
* Flood stage is 5.0 feet.
* Forecast…the river will continue to fall to 4.8 feet by Wednesday
morning.
* Impact…at 5.0 feet…some flooding begins to lowest areas along
the river.
The Flood Warning continues for
the Kankakee River at Shelby.
* Until further notice…or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 345 am Tuesday the stage was 10.7 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Forecast…the river will continue rising to near 10.9 feet by this
morning. Additional rises may be possible thereafter.
* Impact…at 10.0 feet…flooding affects County and local roads.
Wildwood Estates and Sumava Resorts begin to experience some
flooding.
The Flood Warning continues for
the Iroquois river near Foresman.
* Until Friday morning…or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 315 am Tuesday the stage was 19.2 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Forecast…the river will continue rising to near 19.7 feet by this
morning. The river will fall below flood stage early Friday
morning
