FLOOD UPDATE > Water levels, House Fire

* Watseka’s Route 1 and 24 intersection remains closed this morning. IDOT manager Kip Rutledge reports flood waters still cover both lanes of traffic. Detours are in place. Truckers are reminded there are posted weight limits on county and township roads. The Route 1 and 24 traffic is being re-routed to Routes 1, 45/49 and 52. Local traffic has the option of using Cable Line Road, north of Watseka.

* Watseka officials report water levels as of 7 am Friday — Sugar Creek at Legion Park dropped 9 inches overnight. However, at the west junction of Routes 1 and 24, the flood level increased by 2.5 inches from 6 pm Thursday to 7 am today. NWS Flood Statements are available online at WGFARADIO.COM and at IQESDA.COM.

* The flood waters hampered Watseka firemen Thursday evening in battling a house fire. Firemen had to use boats and portable equipment to get to a structure fire at 492 E. Ash Street. Extensive damage was reported done to the Wally Urban residence. Fire chief Dave Mayotte said the fire started in a crawl space. Water 2.5 to 3-feet deep kept firemen from getting to the source freely. No injury was reported. Woodland, Milford, Martinton and Crescent City provided mutual aid.
