HOMELAND SECURITY GRANTS AWARED TO KANKAKEE >
* Several Kankakee County fire departments will share a Homeland Security grant aimed at purchasing 31 portable computers for first responders. Local departments will have to provide about $45,000 to complete the $182,000 purchase. This technology will allow the participating departments to purchase the mobile computers that allow responders access to fast and up-to-date information such as hazardous materials, chemical lists, technical rescue information, maps and other types of information, according to Bourbonnais Township Fire Chief Ed St. Louis.
In addition to Bourbonnais Township, other departments that will receive money through this grant are Aroma Park, Grant Park, Kankakee, Kankakee Township, Limestone, Manteno, Momence, Otto Township, Pilot Township and Serena.
