SEASONAL FLU CLINICS CANCELLED

— FLU CLINICS CANCELLED —

Watseka, IL – The Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department issued a statement today saying that all remaining clinics scheduled for delivery of the seasonal flu vaccine have been cancelled. According to Dee Ann Schippert, RN, BSN, Schools and Community Health Coordinator for the agency, the supply of the seasonal flu vaccine that the agency received has been dispensed.

“We have been notified that we will not be able to obtain any further shipments of the seasonal flu vaccine,” said Schippert. “Earlier in the year we were told that there would be a sufficient supply of the seasonal vaccine. We were told that deliveries of the vaccine would come at periodic intervals and supply was sufficient to service our area. Recently we were notified that the manufacturers of the vaccine were pulled off production of the seasonal vaccine in order to produce the supply of H1N1 vaccine needed for the priority groups identified to receive that vaccination.” Mrs. Schippert said that the local agency has tried to call other providers to see if additional seasonal vaccine could be purchased but other providers are also out of the vaccine. “I wish I could tell you that we will have more yet this year, but it is just not available,” she said.

Schippert encourages all residents to use common sense precautions to reduce their risk of getting the flu including:
” Washing hands often, especially after coughing, sneezing, and wiping or blowing the nose.
” Covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
” Using paper tissues when wiping or blowing your nose; throw tissues away after use.
” Staying away from crowded living and sleeping spaces.
” Staying at home and avoiding contact with other people to protect them if you have an illness.
