NWS Issues Heat Advisory for Thursday
The immediate Illiana-area is included in a heat advisory for Thursday. The National Weather Service reports temperatures are expected to reach the triple digits in the next few days.
The Heat Advisory is in affect from 12 Noon thru 7 p.m. Thursday.
Counties under the advisory include Champaign, Vermilion, Ford, Iroquois, Douglas, Edgar, Coles, Moultrie, Shelby, Piatt, Macon, DeWitt and McLean.
Peak temperatures will be in the mid to late afternoon hours, when readings could get as high as 110 degrees.
Citizens are advised to take the necessary precautions to beat the heat by wearing light-weight and loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water. You should also check on the elderly and pets often during the hot weather.
Community leaders are urged to make Cooling Centers available for those without air-conditioning. Churches, retail outlets, and government buildings are often used as local collong centers.
