Iroquois County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan
- FEMA Approved –
Iroquois County’s Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan has been approved by FEMA. The plan now needs to be adopted by resolution by the county and participating communities. Once adopted, respective parties are eligible for competitive grants to pursue projects.
“Draft” of the Mitigation Plan is available for viewing at the Iroquois County Zoning Office at the Administrative Center in Watseka or by appointment at the Iroquois County ESDA Office at the Courthouse. An online PDF version of the Iroquois County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan is also available.
On April 13, 2009, Iroquois County kicked off initial efforts to gather input and develop a multi-hazard mitigation plan. The county was awarded a $100,000 grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
Iroquois County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) and Iroquois County Zoning directed the efforts of the plan. The plan identifies activities that can be undertaken by both government and private sector to reduce the safety hazards, health hazards, and property damage caused by floods, tornadoes, thunderstorms, winter/ice storms, and other natural hazards.
